Crawfish Boil in Oak Cliff

A couple of months ago I managed to get away for a weekend to go on an epicurean adventure in Dallas with my friend Drew.  He had worked at a small Italian restaurant during its opening years and returned to pay a visit to old friends.  The crew from Lucia laid out a feast for him, hosted by the sous chef and his beautiful family.  I’ve seen few modern day spreads as lavish as this crawfish boil, which made me feel like I was dining on something in a 17th century still life painting – except that I was in a backyard in Oak Cliff eating with my hands.  I wouldn’t have traded that day for the world, and I’m glad I took these photos to remember it, even if my camera now has the wrong kinds of grease in its gears.

These images were all shot on 35mm film with my Canon AE-1 Program, with the exception of the last portrait which was done on my Rolleicord as the evening sun was fading.
